| Golden Jubilee function of the Institute |
n the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Institute in 1996 a year long functions were held. A conference was organized on the theme, "Physical and Biological Changes across the major Geological Boundaries".

| Its proceedings were published as volume 46 of the journal "The Palaeobotanist". |
Besides, a set of four Postal Stamps on Fossil Plants were released by the Department of Posts, on 11 September, 1997 by the Minister of Communications, Government of India to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, Lucknow. |
The First Day Cover issued on the occasion features the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany and a Cameo inset of Professor Birbal Sahni. A permanent Gallery on fossil plants has been opened at Regional Science Center, Lucknow. |

During the Golden Jubilee celebration (11 September, 1995 to 10 September, 1996), a series of five Lectures were delivered. Ist Golden Jubilee Lecture was delivered by Prof. V.K. Gaur on "Antarctica- The Land of Science" on 10th September 1995. |
